CALL FOR ARTIST – REEDIKULUS ART CRAWL
ARTISTS SOUGHT FOR REEDIKULUS ART CRAWL AND SATURDAZE OPEN GALLERIES REEDSBURG, WISCONSIN
EXHIBIT PERIOD: ART CRAWL, JULY 28, 5-9 PM
SATURDAZE OPEN GALLERIES, JULY 29, 12-5 PM
Reedsburg ArtsLink seeks qualified artists over the age of 18 for the third annual Reedikulus Art Crawl occurring in historic downtown Reedsburg on July 28 with open galleries on July 29th, 2017.
The Reedikulus Art Crawl is a free downtown walking tour featuring local and regional fine artists exhibiting in a variety of existing and make-shift venues. The event also includes both existing public art and large scale temporary public art commissioned especially for the event. Art making activities, buskers, nibbles, and beer and wine are offered along the Art Crawl which culminates in City Park, just a block off Main Street with live music and food trucks.
In its third year, the Reedikulus Art Crawl is designed to showcase the work of both established and emerging artists from Sauk County and beyond. The Reedikulus Art Crawl was created in 2015 to bookend “Reedikulus Day” a long-standing retail street sale offering “Reedikulus” bargains, puppet parades, and crazy costumes. Though event planners have discontinued the Reedikulus Day street sales, Reedsburg ArtsLink decided to keep the Reedikulus name alive.
Using both existing and pop-up venues, the event activates indoor and outdoor spaces including vacant storefronts, adapted retail spaces, back allies, warehouse space, boarded-up windows, sidewalk surfaces, parking spaces and city parks. It will also include multiple public art installations featuring one large-scale commissioned work created especially for the Art Crawl and to be held over through the 2017 Fermentation Fest, a nationally acclaimed annual celebration of live culture in all its forms. A combined regional audience of 500-750 people is anticipated for the Art Crawl and Saturdaze Open Galleries.
Between 8-20 artists will be selected to exhibit their work based on the nature of the applications and the number of venues available. Artists whose work perplexes and stimulates the imagination of the audience are encouraged to apply as the focus of this event is on exhibition versus sales. While this is not a traditional “Art Fair,” artists are welcome to sell original works, prints, cards, or experiences at their venues. Reedsburg ArtsLink requests a good will donation of 30% of the artist’s sales.
This event is supported in part by a grant from the Sauk County UW-Extension, Arts and Culture Committee, and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
